Attention Interact Club members:  Applications for RYLA, Rotary Leadership Youth Awards Conference are due March 2nd.  This conference is May 4-6.  Applications can be picked up in J128 and can be returned to Diane Woods or Mr. Lindstrom.

COUNSELING CENTER

The Moline Parks and Recreation Department is looking for seasonal employees to help with our Youth Sports and Green Valley Softball Complex.  For more information see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.

Whitey’s Ice Cream is looking for applicants for all of their nine Quad City locations.  Please see Mrs. Thompson for more information.

Scholarships open ONLY to Moline High School seniors are now available on the Counseling website with a deadline of April 2nd and must be submitted to Ms. Stone in the Counseling Center:

Alex Hallene Memorial Scholarship – Open to seniors attending University of Illinois in the fall of 2018. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Moline Booster Club Scholarship – Four $250 scholarships will be awarded to 2 senior male students and 2 senior female students. Applicants must be a student athlete and demonstrate volunteerism.

Cyrus and Mildred Churchill Scholarship – $500 scholarship for Moline High School senior who has high scholastic standing, is actively involved in Moline High School extracurricular activities, demonstrates financial need, and possesses a strong desire to advance his/her education.

Shirley Rosenberg Memorial Scholarship – Open to Moline High School seniors going into the field of education or a similar helping profession. Two scholarships will be awarded–one to a Moline High School senior male student and one to a Moline High School senior female student in the amount of $500 each.

Bill Bishop Athletic Scholarship – Open to Moline High School seniors who have been involved in girls’ or boys’ basketball, baseball or softball. Applicants must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree full-time and be in the top 1/3 of their class.

John “Jack” Cervantes Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 scholarship open to Moline High School seniors who demonstrate financial need and display the following characteristics: studious, capable and hardworking, well-rounded, dedicated to others, and serious about earning a university degree. Scholarship is renewable for three years. Preference will be given to applicants who are immigrants.

Kevin Moseley Science Scholarship – Open to Moline High School seniors who have taken at least three years of lab science–one in each field. Applicants must be accepted to an accredited institution and be furthering their education in a science-related field.

WIU-Quad Cities is hosting a law enforcement open house and discussion on Saturday, March 10th at 10:30am in Riverfront Hall for students interested in careers in law enforcement.

The Pureland Supply Vocational and Skilled Trade Scholarship:  $1,000 scholarship is open to students who have been accepted to an accredited community college, vocational college, technical school or trade school. Deadline of June 1st.

Envision summer program open to high-achieving students in grades 9-11 interested in expanding their leadership abilities and discovering their passion for a future career in a variety of areas such as medicine, law and CSI, national security, engineering and technology, and leadership and diplomacy should see their counselor for nomination.

Authentic Voices will take a group photo for the yearbook in the cafeteria after school today.  All Authentic Voices’ members may attend to be featured in the yearbook.

Every Friday after school the Genders and Sexualities Alliance meets in the Library Media Center. This is a safe, non-judgmental environment to socialize with friends. All are welcome.

COUNSELING CENTER

National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Scholarship – Open to female and male students enrolling in a construction related program at a university, college or vocational/trade school as a full-time student. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Deadline of April 30th.

Come 2 Iowa Senior Scholarship – Five $1,000 scholarships open to students planning to attend college in Iowa. Deadline of May 31st.

SPORTS

Softball tryouts are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week.  Freshmen and Sophomores are from 3:30 – 5:30 and Juniors and Seniors are from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the West Gym.

Tickets for the Sadie Hawkins Dance are now on sale at the Bookstore.  The dance will be held at the QC Botanical Center on Saturday, February 24th from 7 to 10 pm.

Attention all students:  The 2018 yearbook has extended its final deadline for ordering this year’s “M” to February 26th.  If you haven’t ordered yours yet, please bring a check or money order for $52.00 to the bookstore. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.  Yearbooks will no longer be available after Monday, February 26th.

Attention Freshmen and Juniors:  Please check your emails for a yearbook survey.  We want to include your thoughts in this year’s book, so please make sure you fill in the form by Wednesday. February 28th.  The yearbook staff appreciates your help in making this year’s “M” a book to remember.

LULAC National Scholarship – Scholarships will be awarded to qualified Hispanic students ranging from $250-$2,000. Applicants must have applied as a full-time student to a college or university, including 2-year colleges and vocational schools that lead to an associate’s degree. Deadline of March 31st.

Italian American Society Scholarship – $1,000 scholarship open to high school seniors enrolling in a college or university in the fall following graduation. Applicants must have at least one Italian ancestor to be eligible. Deadline of April 1st.

Quest Bridge: College Prep Scholars Program – This program provides high school juniors with an early advantage in the college admissions process. Open to high-achieving high school juniors from low income backgrounds.  Students may apply on their own or be recommended. This has a deadline of March 21st.

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Rock Island Post – Scholarships open to students interested in pursuing careers in engineering and the physical sciences. Applicants must be accepted at an accredited 4-year engineering or science college as an engineering or science student. This has a deadline of March 27th.

FFA and Muscatine Community College (MCC) Agriculture Scholarship – $500 non-renewable scholarship available to students enrolling in MCC’s AG program in the fall immediately following high school graduation. Applicants must have served as a FFA Chapter officer within the last two years. Deadline of March 1st.

Muscatine Community College (MCC) Fine Arts Scholarship – Open to high school seniors planning to attend MCC in the fall following high school graduation and take theater and music course(s) each semester. Deadline of March 1st.

WQAD & Sedona Group: S.O.A.R. Scholarship – Award of $1,000 open to 5 high school seniors who exemplify strength, optimism, achievement, and resolve. Deadline of April 16th.

Moline Little League is looking for umpires for baseball and softball for this upcoming season. They will be conducting a certification process starting this Sunday, February 18th at the Carriage House in Moline from 2:00 to 4:00.  Please stop by the Counseling Center to pick up an informational flyer if you are interested in becoming a certified umpire.

The Cardiovascular Medicine (CVM)-Illinois Youth Mentoring Health Scholarship – Open to high school seniors who plan to pursue a full-time undergraduate course of study in math, science or the medical sciences from an accredited college or university. This has a deadline of February 28th.

Township Officials of Illinois Scholarship – Seven $1,500 scholarships open to students with a GPA of at least 3.0 and planning to attend a college/university in Illinois. Applicants must have a history of extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership responsibility, civic responsibility, social consciousness and willingness to serve the community. This has a deadline of March 1st.

Attention all students and staff – the time you have been waiting for has finally arrived!  The 2018 bass fishing team shirts and hoody sweatshirts have finally arrived and are now for sale in the bookstore. These items look and fit great and are reasonably-priced. They make great gifts and are also perfect for Friday spirit wear.  All proceeds help support the bass team and its quest for another state championship!  As always, thanks for supporting the bass fishing team.

All Moline Medical Association club members:  We will have our yearbook pictures today at 3:10 in room B318.  Please be prompt.

The Interact Club will be having their picture taken for the yearbook today after school.  Meet in J128 at 3:05.  Anyone who has been a part of Interact is invited to be in the picture.

FCA will have its yearbook picture taken today right after school in D137.  It will be very fast so it won’t interfere with practice.

Authentic Voices will be selling wooden roses for Valentine’s Day outside the cafeteria during lunch today.  Buy roses and have them delivered on Valentine’s Day!  Also, Authentic Voices members will meet after school today to prepare wooden roses for delivery in A152.

Attention all Line O’ Type staff: There will be a planning meeting for next month’s issue of the newspaper after school today in B206, Mrs. Norcross’s room.  Please see Mrs. Norcross if you are unable to attend.

Attention all students and staff – the time you have been waiting for has finally arrived!  The 2018 bass fishing team shirts and hoody sweatshirts have finally arrived and are now for sale in the bookstore. These items look and fit great and are reasonably-priced. They make great gifts and are also perfect for Friday spirit wear.  All proceeds help support the bass team and its quest for another state championship!  As always, thanks for supporting the bass fishing team.

Thursday, February 15th, is the deadline to purchase the 2018 yearbook.  Please order your book at the Bookstore, so you will not miss out on receiving one at the end of the year.

Tickets for the Sadie Hawkins Dance are now on sale at the Bookstore.  The dance will be held at the QC Botanical Center on Saturday, February 24th from 7 – 10 pm.

It’s time to order your Class Ring.  Moments with Class/Herff Jones will be here Thursday, February 15th from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. This will be your best opportunity to place your order, see samples, and get sized, right here at school.  An $80 deposit is all you need to get started.  Order forms are in the main office.  Don’t miss out!

If you will be 18 on or before November 6th, you can register and vote in the primary elections scheduled for March 20th.  Please see Mrs. Mesick in the Library Media Center with your driver’s license or state ID today through Thursday, February 15th.  Exercise your right to have a vote.

Bring your blankets and pillows for our winter movie night! MHS students are all invited to the cafeteria Thursday night, February 15th at 7:00 to watch the new release “Wonder” hosted by RAK and Natural Helpers. Put it on your calendars now! It’s free to all students!
