National Honor Society members:  This is a reminder that the deadline for the Harold P. Griffith Scholar Award Scholarship worth $1,000.00 a year for four years is on January 31st, 2018.

Basketball Tickets for January 5th Alleman game

Ticket sales for the Moline Boys Basketball game at Rock Island Alleman on January 5, 2018 will continue through Wednesday December 20th (today).

Moline High School received a limited amount of tickets for MHS students, family members of basketball players/coaches, and MHS season ticket holders/community members.

Students may purchase only one ticket and must present their current Moline High School student ID. 

Once the tickets are gone, the Athletic Office will make an announcement during school and post this announcement on the MHS website.

Below is the schedule for remaining ticket sales:

Wednesday 12/20/17: 3:00 PM-3:30 PM– high school Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores

Wednesday 12/20/17: 3:15 PM-4:00 PM– high school Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen

Remember: Only one ticket per student. Students must have their current MHS ID to purchase a ticket.

MISC

Moline High School will be providing two additional opportunities for students to complete assignments and demonstrate their course proficiency.  Student Work Days will be available on Thursday, December 21st and Friday, December 22nd, from 8:00-12:00 noon, in the MHS library. Computers will be available for student use, if students do not have their own Chromebook. Students must coordinate with teachers prior to participation, and teachers should be contacting parents of eligible students within the next week.  If you believe you could benefit from the Student Work Days, please don’t hesitate to contact specific teachers to discuss the opportunity.

The Sports Unlimited Club’s holiday event will be in the cafeteria right after school today.  We are looking forward to seeing you there to share the holiday fun!

Book Ends, MHS Book Club, will be meeting today after school in the library.

Authentic Voices will meet today during 3rd period in the Aerobics/Dance room by the West Gym.

Attention Drama Club members, today is the last Drama Club meeting in the auditorium. Renovations start soon, so we won’t have Drama Club in the auditorium until the end of the year, next year. Come to the meeting to find out about the honor society, theatre festival, the next set of auditions, and more.

National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) Scott/St. Louis Chapter Scholastic Awards – Two scholarships of $4,000 each and three scholarships of $2,500 each for recipients enrolled in an accredited bachelors program in 2018, and a $1,500 scholarship for students enrolled in a certified program in transportation or related field. Deadline of March 1st.

2018 Aspiring Nurse Scholarship – $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student graduating high school in 2018 planning to pursue college and education in nursing. Deadline of August 31st.

SPORTS

Congratulations Boys Swim Team with another win this weekend.  The team scored 186 out of 192 points and took 1st place in 10 of the 12 events.

2018 Graduates: Please check your name on the diploma list outside the Registrar’s Office.  This is how it will appear on your diploma.  Make all changes with Mrs. Valdes.  Changes made after January 10 will cost $5.00.

Need to make-up work? Need credit recovery? Need homework assistance?  Early Bird is a great option.  Early Bird is available every day of the week from 7:00 to 8:00 am.  Look for the postings of daily classes and rooms in the hallways and on the TVs.

If you have not already, make sure you take a spin down B wing second floor and see the beautiful painted windows on the Library Media Center. Thank you to all who added to the mood of celebration for Share Joys and all it means to our community. Student voters selected the window painted by Heather Anderson with birds on winter branches as their favorite. Staff chose the winter moonscape painted by Laney Krebs and Kiya Ritchie. Thank you to all painters!

EIU Panther Ambassador Scholarship – $2,000 scholarship open to senior students who are actively involved in their school and community AND plan to attend Eastern Illinois University in the fall. Deadline of March 15th.

Army Educational Outreach Program: Science & Engineering Apprentice Program – For students with interest and ability in science and mathematics to be apprentices in the Department of the Army laboratories for 8 weeks in the summer. Deadline of February 28th.  Visit the scholarships page of the Counseling Website for more details and an application.

Students and staff buy your Share Joys tickets this week at the bookstore!  Starting Monday, Share Joys elves will be selling Oreo balls, puppy chow and student and staff raffle tickets.  Staff and students can win a Smart T.V.  There are 100 prizes including a drone, an autographed Bears football, two rounds of golf at TPC Deere Run and many more gift cards and prizes.  Be ready to help raise money for Share Joys next week!

Jaycee Foundation: Community Service Scholarship – $1,000 non-renewable scholarship open to seniors planning to begin college in the fall of 2018 at an accredited post-secondary institution. The Moline Medical Association (formerly HOSA) will have a meeting today at 3:10 in room B318. Make sure you turn in your order forms for our club T shirts. See you then!

Spanish Club will meet today after school in room J328 to play Pictionary.  Please sign up outside of J328, if you can bring a snack or beverage to share.

Today’s Kaleidoscript meeting is for officers only. Please meet in B220 after school so we can work on the magazine.

Student led Bible Study will not be meeting tomorrow.

Congratulations to all of the members of Donut Eating teams who raised $12,717.00 toward our Share Joys total!  This year’s Top Banana was the team of Carter Schierbrock, Lacy McMillion, Joe Lavin, and Alannah Crompton.  The Big Donut award went to the team of Maddie Peterson, Kamara Dickerson, Nicole Ellis, and Kayla Veto.  This year’s 2017 Donut King is Owen Swanson, and the 2017 Donut Queen is McKena Mathews.
