COUNSELING CENTER

There are 3 classes that are still open at the Area Career Center next year.  If you are interested, please see your counselor today!  Seniors may apply for Cosmetology.  Juniors and Seniors may apply for Fire Science or Design and Drafting.  These are the only classes that are open.

SPORTS

Anyone interested in joining the Cross Country team next fall will need to attend a brief meeting in the cafeteria after school on Thursday

Reminder to seniors:  If you know what college you will be attending in the fall, order your final transcript through Parchment, making sure to choose “Hold for Final Grades.  If you use the Send Now option your transcript will send immediately and your college will not receive your Final Transcript.  Once finals grades are completed all Final Transcripts will be sent.  All colleges require a Final Transcript, so failure to complete this process will cause unnecessary issues for you in the fall.  Final transcripts cannot be sent without your permission and will only be sent through Parchment.

The Dispatch-Argus and Bi-State Sportsman’s Association are looking for qualified applicants to fill some summer positions. For more information, see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.

Volunteer Opportunities: Rip Roar Events is looking for some volunteers for their youth Triatholon series this summer held in Bettendorf. Again, for more info see Mrs. Thompson.

Kelly Services is looking for employees to work through the summer or longer. Must be 18 to apply and no experience is necessary. For more information see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.

SPORTS

The Moline Boys’ tennis team finished tied for 25th in class 2A at the State meet last week.  Representing Moline in singles were Shaddy Khalafallah and Shiv Puri.  Shaddy won two matches and reached the final 16 in 2A.  That was the highest finish by a Moline Boy since 2000.

Congratulations to the boys’ baseball and girls’ softball teams.  Each clinched regional titles over the weekend!

Congratulations to Madeline Reddy for her selection to the Young Emerging Writers Summer Internship Program sponsored through Midwest Writing Center, Rock Island. MHS is proud of your acceptance and we look forward to your contributions to The Atlas, the Midwest Writing Center’s literary journal featuring the best work produced by the interns over the course of the program.

Locker clean out will be today from 9:50-10:05.  In cleaning out your lockers, please do not throw away any library books.  There will be carts in E wing, all floors for students to drop off books and school supplies.  Laundry bins will be available for clothes and shoes.  Students need to report to their 3rd period class at 10:05 or you will be marked tardy.

An informational meeting for next year’s Girls golf team will be tomorrow in room E305. If you are interested please attend or contact Coach Schilb in room E305.

The 2017 yearbooks will be distributed this week.  Distribution will take place in the library and all students will need to bring their school IDs.  Seniors will be able to pick their books up beginning Tuesday, right after convocation, and then Wednesday during the day.  Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will be able to pick their books up after school on Wednesday. If you are unsure if you have purchased a book, please check on Skyward or ask in the Bookstore.  Remember to have all of your fines paid by distribution day.  The “M” staff is excited for everyone to see this year’s collection of memories.

The Moline Boys’ tennis team won the Rock Island Sectional tournament on Saturday. Qualifying for the state meet later this week is junior Shaddy Khalafallah who won the singles championship and junior Shiv Puri who was runner-up in the singles bracket. The state tournament begins on Thursday in Chicagoland.

The Moline Public Library is hosting a Kindergarten for Teens event at 6:00 this evening. Trade in the stress of school for snacks, games, and coloring.

QC Scholars will meet for the final time of the year after school today in room E204. Be there by 2:10.

Attention:  There will be an Interact Club meeting tomorrow at 3:10 in room J128.  We will be hearing from a representative from “Shelter Box” – a group that provides help and survival supplies to people after disasters such as floods, earth quakes, etc.  Please plan to attend.

Contemporaries’ try-outs will be held tomorrow from 3:30-4:30 in the East Gym.  You will need to have the permission form completed before tryouts on Thursday.

The Link Crew meeting that was scheduled for May 11th has been rescheduled for Monday, May 22 from 6-8 pm in the East Gym. You must let Mrs. Hoover, in the Counseling Center; know if you cannot make it by today if you still want to be a Link Crew leader in the fall.

Cop on a Rooftop:  Moline Police Benevolent Officers are scheduled to cover the Dunkin’ Donuts rooftop at 3501 Avenue of the Cities from 5:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Friday, May 19th to raise awareness and donations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Every person who donates will receive a coupon for a free donut good for Friday only. Make a donation of $10 or more and you will receive a free coffee mug!

Attention all participants of the Senior Send Off Talent Show:  There is a mandatory practice tonight on Wednesday, May 17th from 3-5pm.  Please have everything ready to go by 3:00 in the auditorium.  See you there!

Stop by the Moline Public Library after school today for Game Days. From 2:30 to 4:30, there will be video games, board games, and computer games in the Teen Corner for you to enjoy.

Need help with homework?  After school tutoring is available today from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in room B325.
