Art Club will meet today after school in room E111.  This club meets every Tuesday.

Attention Line O ‘Type Staff:  There will be a planning meeting for February’s issue after school today in B206, Mrs. Norcross’s room.  Please see Mrs. Norcross if you are unable to attend.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be meeting Wednesday morning in room E114 at 7:30.  All students are welcome to join us.

COUNSELING CENTER

Sophomores–You must complete your online scheduling for next year by this Friday, February 3rd at 4:00.  You have a copy of the scheduling presentation, course selection sheet and scheduling directions in your email.  You will not be able to complete your online scheduling after 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Any students, who are interested in being part of the National Hispanic Institute of the Quad Cities that provides college mentoring and scholarships for students of Hispanic heritage, please see Mrs. Ryser or Mr. Castro.  There is a parent/student orientation for the program Saturday, February 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Augustana College.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards or RYLA is designed for high school students who have an interest in developing their leadership skills to the fullest.  RYLA Weekend will be held May 5-7th.  Applications for RYLA will be available in February.  If interested in getting more information on this event, please see Dave Lindstrom, sponsor of Interact for further details.

A reminder to all students:  As stated in the Student Planner on page 111 – No food deliveries from outside vendors/restaurants during lunch.

Stop by the Moline Public Library after the early out tomorrow for Game Days. From noon to 3:00 there will be video games, board games, and computer games in the Teen Corner for you to enjoy.

Senior National Honor Society members:  The Harold P. Griffith Scholar Award is worth $4,000.00 over the course of four years of college.  This scholarship is due on January 31st.  This is a fantastic opportunity and a small applicant pool.  Don’t miss this deadline.

Attention Interact Club: We will be having our first meeting of the New Year today at 3:05 in J128.  It is important that all members are in attendance.  Mr. Franque from Rotary will be speaking to members about leadership opportunities and events for MHS Interact Club.  Also, there are some volunteer opportunities coming up in the month of February that will be announced at this meeting.  Please plan to attend.

Attention students and members of the bass fishing team …winter casting practices begin next week. Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:15-4:30. Bass team members will be expected to bring equipment to practice and it can be stored in Coach Albrecht’s room during the school day. See Coach Albrecht in B322 with questions.

Kaleidoscript will be meeting in B215 today for InDesign training. You should have checked the lists outside of Mrs. MacLennan’s or Ms. Hays’ room to verify that you will have access. See either Mrs. MacLennan or Ms. Hays with questions.

Students:  Is your New Year’s resolution to get healthy?  There are free Jazzercise classes for all students up to age 18 for 2017 at the Jazzercise on Avenue of the Cities.  Please see Mrs. Ryser if you have questions.

There are seasonal job opportunities through Moline Parks and Recreation.  If interested see Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.

Any girl not currently in a sport, there will be a Girls’ Track and Field meeting Tuesday after school in E-301 @ 3:10.  Bring practice clothes and check with the Athletic Office to make sure you have a physical on file.  Any girl currently in a sport, please stop by E-301 to put your name on the sign-up list

Congratulations to the Moline Special Olympics Basketball Team!  They received 3rd place at the District Basketball Tournament! The team consists of Dakotah Gardner, Gracie Reilly, Shodel Hammittt-Rice, Bailey Hammitt-Rice, Jarod Sountris, Myrracle Curtis, and Payton Brown. Again, congratulations!

COUNSELING CENTER

Do you need to take the Accuplacer Test? If you’re interested in taking an Honors English class next year (and not currently in an Honors Eng. class) OR if you’ve already taken two Dual Credit classes and are signing up for more next year (and have not taken it yet).  The Accuplacer Test will be offered at MHS on Thursday, January 19th from 12:00 to 1:00 and Wednesday, February 8th from 2:00-3:00 in Room B220. Reserve your spot for the Accuplacer Test today in the Counseling Center.

Juniors–This is a reminder that your online scheduling must be done by 4:00 on Friday, January 20th.  Please bring your printed schedule to the Counseling Center. You will not be able to schedule after Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Auditions for the Spring Musical, Cinderella, will be from 3:30-6:30 pm on Monday, January 23rd and Tuesday, January 24th. You must have 16-24 measures of a Broadway musical prepared. Please bring your own music. Call-backs will be Wednesday, January 25th from 3:30-4:30. Any questions please see Ms. Callahan in the choir room C125.

In the cafeteria:  Only students receiving food service may go through the serving lines. You may not follow a friend through the line. There are to be no backpacks in the serving lines, as well.

Congratulations to the Moline Chess Team for their 2nd place finish in the Peoria High School Tournament.  Anthony Rebello, Brandon Schell, Elwood Gupton, Edgar Rosales, Karthik Prakash, Kier Cook, Lennon West, Jacob Powell, Chris Dawson, and Phil Pham all contributed to this strong finish.  The chess team qualified for the state tournament which will be in February.

Authentic Voices will be having a Senior Tea for its early graduate members today in B131 during 4th period. Members of Authentic Voices are welcome to attend during their lunch. Those attending should bring their own lunch to B131. Cookies and tea will be provided.

To anyone who is interested in auditioning for the Spring Musical there will be an audition workshop on Tuesday, January 17th from 3:30 to 4:30 in room C125.  It would be very beneficial to your audition to show up! The directing team looks forward to seeing everyone.

The My Favorite Teacher Contest is open to all current students and active teachers within the WQAD News 8 viewing area.  Each entrant must submit an essay explaining who his/her favorite teacher is/was and why that particular educator is so outstanding.  Entry forms are available in the main office.  Deadline for entries is Monday, February 6th.

Students:  Second semester schedules will be handed out today.  This is just a reminder that the students’ schedules are based on staffing needs. Scheduling changes CANNOT be made at this time to accommodate students’ requests for a different teacher or to change electives.  Due to the fact that most of our classes are at capacity, no second semester schedule changes can be made unless there is a mistake or a failure that requires a change.  If there is a mistake, see your counselor right away.

The Little Prince is a family friendly play based off the beloved children’s book and movie. Come along on the journey to learn many life lessons about love, friendship and finding yourself.  The show is tonight and Saturday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the MHS auditorium.  Tickets are on sale at the bookstore.  Hope to see you there!

2017 Graduates: Please check your name on the diploma list outside the Registrar’s Office.  This is how it will appear on your diploma.  Make all changes with Mrs. Valdes.  Changes made after January 15, 2017 will cost $5.00.

Due to technical difficulties, Skyward scheduling for juniors was just turned on this morning.  If juniors tried to do their scheduling and were unable to do it, please try again.  You have until Friday, January 20th to finish your online scheduling.  Everything should be ready to go now.

French Club will have a party today after school in Ms. Ciucci’s room, J323, to celebrate the arrival of 2017, and the end of first semester.  Please bring a snack or a beverage to share if you can make it.

There will be a Link Crew meeting today after school in the cafeteria for all students who signed up to do 8th grade tours the evening of January 17th.

Interact Club will not be meeting today due to the Link Crew meeting in the cafeteria.
