CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

Kaleidoscript will be meeting in the LIBRARY this week for a Book Talk and InDesign training. All staff should arrive no later than 3:15.  Questions?  See Ms. Hays or Mrs. MacLennan.

Interact Club will meet today after school in E301 at 3:10.

Authentic Voices will send 10 girls to the “Girls on Fire” conference on November 20th.  If interested, get a field trip form from Mrs. Thompson in the Counseling Center.  The first 10 girls signed up will get to go.

Student-led Bible Study will be meeting Friday in room J227 from 3:10-3:40.  All are welcome!

COUNSELING CENTER

The Ascentra Credit Union Scholarship and the Illinois Odd Fellow- Rebekah Scholarship are now available to graduating senior students.  Applications for both are available from the counseling website, with both scholarships having a March 1 due date.

SPORTS

The Physical Education department is looking for certified lifeguards.  If you are certified, please see any 11-12th grade P.E. teacher and bring your certification card.

Tickets for the fall play “Almost, Maine” are now on sale at the Bookstore.  Don’t miss this hilarious, heartwarming, and extra special production.  Student tickets are $6.00 and adult tickets are $8.00.  The show runs tonight, Friday, and Saturday at 7:00 P.M.

Congratulations to the Powder Puff football winners!  The Freshmen beat the Sophomores and the Seniors defeated the Juniors!  Thanks to all that donated and a special thanks to the organizers and referees; Mr. Mahieu, Mr. SantAmour, and Mr. Thompson.

COUNSELING CENTER

The ACACIA LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP is now available to male students that plan on attending the University of Iowa.  Applications may be accessed from the Counseling website.  This scholarship has a due date of March 30, 2016.

The Hy-Vee Scholarship is now available to those senior students that are employed by Hy-Vee.  The due date for this scholarship is February 10 and may be accessed from the Counseling Website.

SPORTS

The Luncheon Club will be selling treats for Parent/Teacher Conferences by the M.  You can purchase Triple mint brownies for 1.50, caramel corn for 1.00 and coffee for .50.  Stop by and support the Family and Consumer Science department.

The Boys and Girls Club would like to extend an invitation to the Monsta Bash this Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center.  The Teen Center is located at 1122-5th Avenue, Moline.  Bring your school ID to get in.  This event features a haunted house, food, and costume contests.  If you have any questions, see Christian Sotero or Collin Kettering.

The Moline Public Library will host a College Application workshop today from 4:00 to 6:30. Get hands on help filling out online college applications from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.  Absolutely free and no reservation required.

Thank you to all staff and students who came out and/or volunteered their time at the ‘Swishing’ Together event last night!  We were able to raise over $1200 for our MHS Special Olympics team!  A special thank you to the MHS basketball stars, Coach Ritchie and Coach Reaves, refs Mr. Calhoun and Mr. Verstrate and score keeper Mr. Jasper! Thank you for volunteering to take on the court together with our Special Olympics team and making the game so much fun! It was a great success!  We couldn’t have done it without you!!  Thank You!

Next week is the last week for the 2nd hour can collection.  Clean out your old food, you can still donate food that has passed the expiration date!  Have parents bring cans and non-perishable items to the conferences.

Congratulations to a successful Empty Bowls project and Joel Ryser for raising about $3,700 for Hunger drive to provide food for the needy.  Thank you to all that went and supported such a great cause!

All MHS Students and Staff:  You are invited to attend The Empty Bowl Project: A Night of Philanthropy, Art and Food tonight from 5-7 P.M.  All proceeds benefit the Student Hunger Drive 2015.  Soups from Bass Street Chop House, Biaggi’s, Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, River House, and many other great area restaurants will be served.  Come join the fun and help others at the same time!

First Annual ‘Swishing’ Together Fundraiser for MHS Special Olympics, with the Moline High School basketball players, playing together with the MHS Special Olympics basketball players. B100’s Slater will be the emcee. This event will be held here at Moline High School in the East Gym on Wednesday night October 21st at 5:00. Great raffle baskets face painting and halftime shooting competition is only a part of the reason you should join us! Pizza, beverages, and desserts will be sold at the fundraiser also! The cost is $2 for students, $3 for adults and $5 for your family.  Baskets will be available for your viewing in D132, at which time you can purchase tickets also!  All proceeds from this event go to the MHS Special Olympics team.

Moline High School Interact Club would like to invite all students to a can collecting competition tomorrow night at the U.T. football game.  We are challenging UT and will be collecting cans at the start of the sophomore game until half time of the varsity game, as well as at the front gate.  The winner takes all.  So please bring your cans to the game.

Any student interested in Winter sports will need to have a physical and parent permission forms.  Check with Mrs.Valladares in the Athletic Office.

2nd hour classes are invited to compete in the Hunger Drive can collection.  All 2nd hour classes can pick up boxes in B-131 and collect through the month of October.  The class with the most pounds collected per student in their class wins a breakfast pizza party for their class!  A new category and way to win has been created this year!  The Food Bank has identified some foods that are in GREAT DEMAND.  These foods are listed on the sheet and the class will receive bonus points for these foods.  The winner of the bonus category will win donuts for their class!

Tomorrow is the last day to purchase the 2016 yearbook for the low price of $42.00.  If you haven’t purchased one already, do it tomorrow!

The Moline Public Library will host a College Application presentation tonight at 6:30. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission will discuss everything you need to know to begin the college application process.

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council are accepting applications for its 2016 college scholarship awards from area high school seniors. Applications may be downloaded from the counseling website and are due by January 22, 2016.

Any senior student that is planning on attending Western Illinois University – Quad Cities campus interested in a unique scholarship opportunity should see Mr. Bodeen in the Counseling Center.
