There will be a short Spanish Club meeting today in J328 to organize our next activity.

MHS Encore! will be hosting their annual Dessert Theatre tonight at 7pm in the cafeteria. Come join us for desserts and performances. Cost is $5 at the door.

Art Club will meet today in room E114 after school. See you there!

COUNSELING CENTER

2014 Graduates–The state has announced that the MAP Grants will run out this Friday, February 28th.  If you haven’t filled out the FAFSA, you must fill it out today Thursday, February 27th to qualify for a MAP grant.  Please see your counselor if you have any questions.

Boys swim team members are reminded to return your warm-ups, washed and cleaned, to Mr. Ehlers in D112.

Any girl interested in track and field should see Mr. Bohnsack for practice in the East Gym from 3:30 to 4:30.  You need a physical and parent permission form.

MISC

The Abe Lincoln Young Readers Book Award is given to one author each year selected by high school students in the state of Illinois.  If you have read at least four of the nominees, you are eligible to vote.  Everyone who has been reading the Book Club selection is also eligible to vote.  Voting needs to be done today in the Media Center.

I-O-W-A, Go Green – Go White!  These are Big Ten cheers!  If you are interested in a Big Ten school, you are invited to join the institutions of the Big Ten virtual College Fair on Thursday, February 27th from  2:00 to 10:00 P.M. Any boys interested in playing tennis this spring must attend a meeting after school today in B218.  The meeting will end about 3:45. Contact Coach Jones if you are unable to attend.

Any girl interested in spring soccer needs to meet at Coolidge on March 3rd at 3:30 for practice.  You must have a physical and permission form turned into the Athletic Office.

Each year, thousands of brave souls around the state take a leap into freezing water to support the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois, as part of the Polar Plunge. We would like to see supporters of the Moline High School team (students, staff, alumni, and friends) join together and participate in our area Polar Plunge on Sunday, March 23rd. Please plan to attend an informational meeting today at 3:00 in J108.

Attention all creative geniuses, Kaleidoscript is still accepting submissions for the yearly magazine! You have 4 days left to submit your art, poems, short stories, photos, song lyrics, and fashion!  You could win a gift card!  Ask Ms. Hays or Mrs. MacLennan for details. Also, please have all lollipop money turned in as soon as possible.

Kaleidoscript will meet in B220 at 3:15 tomorrow to review submissions!

There will be a Student Congress meeting tonight at 6:30 P.M. in the cafeteria.

Help save three lives! The semi-annual blood drive hosted by Student Congress will be Friday, February 28th in the West Gym.  If you are 16, you can donate.  Sign up during lunches in the cafeteria starting Monday.

“A Teenage Dream” Sadie’s is Saturday, March 1st from 7-10 pm at Wharton Field house.  Tickets are $10.00 in the bookstore. After Wednesday, the ticket prices increase.

There will be a mandatory Interact meeting after school today for all members in B131.  We will finalize all service projects for the remainder of the school year.

Congratulations to the Varsity Academic Team for placing third at the Masonic Sectional held here last Saturday.  Team members were Pranav Puri, Eric Sheidler, Biniam Anberber, Will Fisher, Connor Malcolm-Bivens, and Karen Sancen.

The team’s next tournament is the IHSA regional, to be held here on the Monday evening of March 10th.

Juniors and seniors applying for NHS, your applications are due to Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center by 3:00 on Thursday, Feb. 20th.

There will be two opportunities for families to complete their FAFSAs.  WIU QC is holding a FAFSA event on February 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Room 116.  Black Hawk College will be holding a FAFSA night on Monday, February 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Adult Education Outreach Center at 4610 Black Hawk Commons Drive Rock Island.

Black Hawk College is holding an FYI Night on Feb. 25th and March 6th at 6:00 p.m.  If you want to go to college, but are not sure where to start, this event is for you.  You will get answers to all of your questions about exploring career options, paying for college, registering for classes and goal setting. Food will be served.

The Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership is having a poster contest. First place will receive a $250.00 gift card.  The deadline for entries is March 31st.

For the first time, you can vote in the primary election if you will be 18 by NOVEMBER 4th.  If you did not get registered in the cafeteria, you have until today to get registered in the MHS library media center.  Encourage your friends and family to exercise their right to vote, as well.

Congratulations to the Moline Chess Team for their strong performance in the IHSA State Chess Tournament.  The team finished 35th out of 138 teams which was the best Moline finish in 14 years.  Team members were Ben Wolf, Steffen Timmer, Bharath Banothu, Jon Mcgehee, Aditya Jain, Bill Johnson, Darsh Kurani, Ethan Blevin, Reece Oldenburg, and Michael Dombrach.

Encore was fortunate and talented enough to continue in the IHSA tournament in Peoria.

Don’t forget that Authentic Voices will be selling roses at lunch today for Valentine’s Day, and be delivered to classrooms on Thursday.  Roses are $1 a piece, $5 for six, and $10 for a dozen.  Do something special for your friends and family, and help out the Domestic Violence Shelter!

HOSA is sponsoring a neurosurgeon to talk to students about the brain and medicine.  Everyone is welcome today at 3:00 in room J138 . Bring a friend.

A list of those earning Math Department Honors has been posted in math classrooms.  Please check it for any discrepancies.

If you will be 18 by November 4, 2014, you are eligible to vote in the primary election on March 18th.  Visit the voter’s registration table in the cafeteria during your lunch today.  Please make sure you have two forms of ID, one that has your address on it.  Your school ID and your driver’s license are two examples.  Alternatively, you can register in the Library Media Center at any time.

Attn: How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying:

Cast Members: Please check the rehearsal schedule daily this week for any revisions OR added names to the hour by hour schedule. You must be responsible to check DAILY as we progress through the show with music and blocking rehearsals.

Set Crew: Please check the construction schedule posted on the stage door for this week’s plan for construction.  Please come if only for a part of the scheduled time.  Wear appropriate clothes and shoes for safety PLEASE!

Hair and Make-up Crew:  We will need to have you join the process during the first week in March.  An announcement will be made to alert all interested students to help at that time.

Other Crews will need volunteers but announcements will be posted as they are needed.  Any further questions?  See Mr. May in the Choir room after school.
