Art Club is meeting today in room E114 at 3:15.  See you there!

All NHS members:  There is a mandatory Share Joys kickoff meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5th at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium lobby.

All Moline High School students who would like to be on Donut Eating Teams that raise money for Share Joys  please attend a 5 minute meeting after school on Friday, Nov. 1st at 3:00 p.m. in the Counseling Center.  If you can’t attend the meeting, see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center before Friday.

The cast list for Captain Starhawk has been posted on the drama board.  The first read-through will be tomorrow in B214 at 3:00.

COUNSELING CENTER

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is sponsoring a Mini Medical School program:  Breathing Easier:  How Pulmonary Research is Changing Lives on Tuesday evening, Nov. 5th at the Adler Health Education Center on the Genesis Medical Center East campus.  To get the registration information, please see your counselor.

The Moline VFW is now offering the Willard L. Velie Jr. Scholarship to Moline High School students only.  To view the full criteria, visit the counseling website.  The due date for this scholarship is January 17, 2014.

SPORTS

Any girl interested in trying out for basketball needs to attend a brief informational meeting todayt after school in the east gym.  Thanks, Coach Ford

Today is Day 2 of Captain Starhawk auditions in room B214.  Remember to be at your appointment five minutes early.  Call backs list will be posted tomorrow morning. Cast list will be posted Friday morning.

Keep your eyes open today for “Souper Heroes” and their baskets full of goodies.  You must purchase tickets at the bookstore before school and in-between classes and are just 50 cents each.  All money will help purchase food for the Student Hunger Drive!

Any student interested in the John Deere Engineering Explorer Program that starts on November 18th should see their counselor ASAP for information and registration.  The program involves (8) Monday night meetings throughout the fall and spring, geared toward real-world experiences in the field of engineering.

On Friday, November 1st, Student Congress will be holding the semi-annual blood drive in the West Gym.  If you are 16 or older, you can donate blood and save up to three lives.  You may sign up during lunches in the cafeteria.

The following items are not to be worn in the building:  Costumes, capes, body paint, masks, hats, bandannas, or gloves.  Backpacks and jackets need to be placed in lockers before the start of the school day.

During the Student Hunger Drive, library fines may be paid with non-perishable food items.  1 item = 50 cents.  We have a lot of overdue books right now.  Let’s fill up those bins and clear out the fines at the same time.

Kaleidoscript’s writing contest ends November 4th.  Rules are posted throughout the hallways, and winners are guaranteed to be published in Kaleidoscript’s magazine at the end of the year.  Kaleidoscript wants your submissions.  Also, Kaleidoscript is selling lollipops during lunch, and we will be meeting today in room B215 at 3:15 p.m.

Today’s drama club meeting is canceled due to the auditions for Capt. Starhawk. Everyone who is auditioning should be at their audition appointment five minutes early and meet in room B214.

There will be an Encore meeting today in E204.

Art Club will be meeting this Thursday in room E114 at 3:15 p.m. Remember to bring your materials!

Authentic Voices:  We have a meeting today during Periods 2 & 3 in the exercise room.  Please check with your teachers and choose the class period that works best for you.  MTI will have students here to present on cosmetology.  Also, if you ordered a t-shirt, pick it up in Mrs. Hoover’s office today!

Latinos Unidos:  Come Thursday after school to J324 to make sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos.  We will be done by 3:45.  Adios!

The Girls Cross Country Team won the Western Big Six Conference last Friday for the sixth straight year.

Congratulations to the Moline Girls Tennis Team for winning the Sectional for the amazing 13th straight year.  Qualifying for State was Olivia Ray in singles and Molly McPherson and Alyssa Ray in doubles.  Good luck to the Maroons as they leave for the State Meet Wednesday.

Intramural basketball sign-ups are extended until Wednesday’s lunch time.  We have one slot left to complete the ten team league.  First one with the form and money will be in the league that starts Wednesday night.  The schedule will be posted outside Mr. Larson’s room and the bookstore by 3:00 Wednesday.

Verizon is sponsoring a state wide video contest on Teen Dating Abuse.  You’ll have a chance to win an I Pad 2 or an I Phone.  If interested, stop by J138 for more information.

Cheer on the Western Big Six Champion Girls Tennis team as they vie for honors in the Sectional Tournament at Rock Island today and Saturday.

Attention students!  All this week Key Club is collecting money for the Powder Puff football game.  It is $5 to play or coach.  ALL girls are invited to participate.  T-shirt forms and medical releases are available at the bookstore and are due this Friday.  The game will take place on Monday, November 4th at 5:30 p.m.

The 4th Period Cans Competition will begin this week and run through October 31st.  If your class would like to win a pizza party, start bringing in your canned foods and help MHS fight hunger!  All donations will go to the Student Hunger Drive and every bit helps.  Good luck classes!!

The Day of the Dead party for Spanish Club is today in J328 after school.  If you signed up to bring food, please remember to bring it.

Art Club will be meeting today to learn how to draw the human body in anatomically correct ways.  See you there!

COUNSELING CENTER

It is College Application Day at MHS:  Notice the signs outside the classrooms and offices proudly displaying where our staff members went to college.  MHS staff members are also wearing sportswear from their colleges or universities in an effort to publicize the importance of completing college applications by the end of October.  In the state of Illinois, October is college application month. Students who complete college applications on time qualify for more scholarships and financial awards from their colleges and universities!

WIU–QC is having a School of Engineering Open House on Saturday, Oct. 19th at 9:00 a.m.

Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences are having an Open House Thursday, Oct. 17th from 4:00 to 6:00.

MTI is having a Fall Open House on Saturday Oct. 19th from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

All senior players on the Moline Girls Tennis team are reminded that they can get free senior photos taken at Photographic Arts immediately after school today.  Wear your tennis outfit for the pictures.
