CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS 

The Results of the Student Congress election are posted outside J-112 and on the TV monitors.

 

There is a Kaleidoscript meeting in B215 at 3:15 today. All members should attend. Money for t-shirts is due as well.

 

There is a Drama Club meeting in E204 after school today. See you then!

 

There will be a HOSA meeting on Wednesday after school in Mr. Mahieu’s room. There will be guest speakers and you will discuss t-shirts, so please attend of you can!

 

COUNSELING CENTER

Seniors– this is a reminder that if you want any scholarship(s) you have been awarded to be printed in the Convocation Bulletin, you need to turn in the sheet you received in CCR into your counselor by this Thursday, May 2.

 

If you’re interested in a summer job, the Celebration River Cruise is hiring deck hands for the Channel Cat. See Mrs. Dexter for details.

 

SPORTS

Any girl interested in trying out for the golf team in the fall needs to attend a short informational meeting on Wednesday, May 1 at 2:30 pm in room B301. If you cannot make the meeting, please contact Coach Lawrence sometime this week.

 

Basketball open gym for any girls interested in basketball will be held in the East Gym today and Thursday from 3:30-4:30.

Prom tickets are on sale. They are $15 each. All students must present their ID to purchase tickets. Anyone bringing guests from another school are reminded to get permission forms in as soon as possible.

 

Some of you may have known AJ Johnson, a student who graduated from MHS last spring. AJ passed away a few weeks ago. Please help support AJ’s family as they undertake the unexpected funeral cost by purchasing a 50/50 Raffle ticket during lunch. Tickets are 1 for $.50, 5 for $2 and an arm length for $5. The winning ticket will be drawn on Friday, May 3rd. Thank you for helping out!

 

National Honor Society students who would like to volunteer to help with the fundraiser for the Johnson family next week, should sign up in the Counseling Center with Mrs. Ryser today!

 

Students with detasseling experience who would like to earn $10 an hour this summer are encouraged to see Mr. Taylor in room E111 to receive an application.

 

Students must be in attendance to participate in school activities. This includes upcoming events such as Convocation on May 13. If you are not in school that day, you will not participate.

Any senior who would like to have their post-graduation plans in the Line O’ Type need to pick up a form in the Publications Office today.

 

Come one, come all to the student-directed One-Act plays this Saturday, April 20th at 7 p.m. For just $1, you are able to see 5 performances. Come support your fellow seniors who directed these shows and all of the performers. You don’t want to miss this one-time performance!

 

The deadline for submitting your Thespian Point Tally Forms is Monday, April 22nd. Anyone who wishes to be inducted into the International Thespian Society must submit these forms. If you did not receive a point tally form, please stop by Mrs. Griesenbeck’s room, B214, ASAP to pick one up. Don’t miss your opportunity to be a part of this International Theater Honor Society.

 

Attention all Kaleidoscript staff: Please stop by B215 TODAY to place a T-shirt order with Mrs. MacLennan. We will be having a meeting next week on MONDAY after school due to testing. Please be sure to attend! See you in B215 at 3:15–MONDAY!

 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Moline Rotary Endowed Scholarship is now available to graduating seniors that plan on attending Augustana College in the fall. Applications may be downloaded from the Counseling website. This scholarship is due to Mr. Bodeen by May 1, 2013.

 

SPORTS

Any current sophomore or junior who is interested in playing football should stop in and fill out an information sheet with Coach Woods.

 

MISC

Next Tuesday when only juniors are here for testing, there will be buses TO school, but no special pick-ups after testing. You’ll have to walk to the avenue and catch a fixed route bus. On Wednesday buses will run as if they were on a regular school day schedule.

 

Students enrolled in Black Hawk College classes and Vocational classes please follow your regular schedule on Wednesday, April 24th.

 

Now is the time to make sure you don’t have any fines or fees in the bookstore, library or cafeteria.  Yearbook distribution is just around the corner and you want to make sure you get yours on time!

 

Registration for Summer School Driver’s Ed is this week. You need to get a form signed in the counseling center and then pay $225 at the bookstore.

 

Any sophomores & juniors who need the Tdap shot for next year should plan to get one on May 9th. The Health Department will be here May 9th from 4-7:00 p.m. to administer the shot. See the nurse if you need more info. Also, please check your name on the clinic bulletin board. Many names have been added.

 

Order your class ring on Thursday, April 25th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packets have been passed out to the freshmen. Any upperclassmen who would like to order, may do so as well!

Any student who is interested in helping with a crew of any kind for the student directed One-Acts this Saturday at 7 p.m., must attend a brief 10-minute meeting after school today in B208.

Were you planning to attend “A Night with the Stars” being held by the Popular Astronomy Club and scheduled for this evening? Due to expected cloud cover that would impair the view of objects in our solar system, it has been cancelled. You are encouraged to attend the Astronomy Day activities being sponsored by the Popular Astronomy Club this Saturday from 2:00-5:00pm at the Moline Public Library and in the evening, beginning at dusk, in the parking lot of Niabi Zoo. For more details, see Mr. Sundberg in room J115.

 

 

COUNSELING CENTER

This is a reminder that tomorrow, April 16th is National Honor Society Induction at 7:30 p.m.  Juniors will practice per. 1 and seniors will practice per. 2 in the auditorium.  On Friday, any staff members who are NHS members should wear their pins with all of our current members to celebrate their accomplishments. 

 

Juniors and Seniors:  Please remember that both Black Hawk College and WIU QC will be having Open House events this Saturday, April 20th.  Black Hawk will be giving the Compass test on Saturday, and Western will be having an Engineering event along with their Open House.  Please stop by the Counseling Center for details.

There will be a meeting of the Gay-Straight alliance on Monday after school in E-311.  You will be talking about the upcoming Day of Silence.  If you wish to participate, please attend this meeting.

 

 

COUNSELING CENTER

Do you want a job this summer? Where can you work on your tan and get paid, too? See Mrs. Dexter in the counseling center to find out and to pick up and application.

 

Ladies:  Are you interested in exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) all while having fun?  Get more information from Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center on the Digital Divas Camp for girls at Black Hawk College. They will also be taking a road trip to Chicago as part of the camp.

 

Army strong! If you are interested in learning more about becoming an officer, truck driver, utilities equipment or track vehicle repairman, or supply, petroleum, or food service specialist, see Mr. Woods in the Counseling Center.

 

SPORTS

On April 17th MHS will have a signing date for a National Letter of Intent for prospective student-athletes enrolling in college for the 2013-14 school year. It will be held at 2 p.m. next Wednesday at Wharton Field House for the media, parents, and relatives. St. Ambrose University is hosting an Exploring Engineering event on April 18 at the Rogalski Center on the St. Ambrose Campus.  The doors open at 5:30 and the event will take place from 6–8 p.m.  Pizza will be served, and there will be presentations on Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, and Electrical Engineering. You must RSVP by April 15th.  See Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center for more information.

Attention new Link Leaders!  Congratulations on being selected for next year’s Link Crew!  In order to confirm your spot as a Link Leader, each of you must stop in the Counseling Center to see Mrs. Sanders, or in B107, across from the Main Office, to see Mrs. Sommers.  Any Link Leader who fails to confirm his or her placement by 3:30 p.m. today will be replaced with another qualified candidate.  Please see Mrs. Sanders or Mrs. Sommers if you have additional questions.  Thank you to all who applied, and please consider applying again next year if your name did not make the list this year.

All staff and students are invited to join us for “A Night with the Stars” on Tuesday, April 16th. Members of the Popular Astronomy Club will be sharing with us their knowledge of our solar system and allowing us to use their mobile observatory and telescopes to view the moon, planets, and constellations. The evening will begin in the cafeteria at 7:30pm. After a short presentation, we will move out to the driver’s ed practice range to view the various objects of our solar system. In order to help us prepare for the evening, please sign up in Mr. Sundberg’s room (J115) by this Wednesday.

The following scholarships are available through the counseling website:

1)    The SEDONA group, (5) $1000 scholarships to QC area senior students (due Apr 28)

 

2)    The Moline Lodge. Applicants must have a 2.75 GPA (due May 30)

 

3)    The Justin Sharp Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is worth $1500 (due June 1)

 

The CVM Scholarships through Trinity have now been extended through May 1, 2013.  Five scholarships valued from $2,000 to $5,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors or enrolled undergraduate students pursuing majors in the sciences and mathematics.  Download applications from the Counseling Website.

 

If you’re interested in a career in Radiology, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, or Nursing, consider joining the “Explore Program”.  It’s offered Tuesdays for the remainder of April. Talk to your counselor for details and registration.

 

SPORTS

There is a parent meeting on Thursday for students interested in cheerleading. The meeting will be at 4:00 p.m. in the gymnastics room. Clinic dates are coming up the 22nd and 23rd, then try-outs the 25th. Those interested need to have your parents attend the meeting this Thursday.

 

MISC

Dodge, duck, dip, duck, dive, dodge! It’s time for another MHS intramural Dodgeball Tourney! Sign up at the bookstore by Wednesday’s deadline. The tourney will be held in the East Gym Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
