Attention all Kaleidoscript staff: ALL lollipop money should be turned in by the end of the week to Ms. Hays in J222! If you want to sell any more in the meantime, please see Ms. Hays.

 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission is hosting a free event this Saturday, March 2nd at Black Hawk College from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Workshops will give students and families information about paying and preparing for college in a fun and interactive way. See Mrs. Dexter in the Counseling Center for registration information.

 

Many colleges are now accepting nominations and applications for their pre-college programs for high school students.  Many applications are due in April and most have fees associated with the program.  You may access the current list of available programs from the counseling page of the school website or by visiting Mrs. Sanders in the counseling center. 

 

SPORTS

All track girls wanting to go out for the sport need to be at Wharton for practice from 3:30-5:00. You need a physical and parent permission form on file as well.

 

 

MISC

The ZAPS ACT test prep seminar that was canceled Tuesday night because of weather has been rescheduled for today. Meet in B152 at 3:30.

 

Tacos in a bag will be sold today after school at the “M” and J-wing entrance. They are just $1. Stop and get a snack after school!

This is the last week  to submit poems, stories, artwork, photography—anything creative—to the Kaleidoscript  for publishing! This is also the deadline for submitting cover designs for the contest. Please note information running on the tv’s around the school. We have also reserved a lab for after school if you wish to stop in and have us help you with your submissions. Please see Mrs. MacLennan or Ms. Hays or stop in B215 or J222 this week! Don’t miss out sharing your work with the MHS community!

COUNSELING CENTER

The Rock Island Post Society of American Engineers is now offering $1000 scholarships to students that plan on pursuing a degree in engineering or physical sciences.  Applications are available on the Counseling Website with a due date of April 1, 2013.

 

The Donald Kiser Memorial Scholarship is now available.  Applicants must pursue a field of study in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering.  Download the application from the Counseling website.  This scholarship has a due date of April 2, 2013.

 

The Rotary Club of Moline is seeking sophomore and junior candidates to take part in the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards weekend held April 19th-21st.  Please see Mr. Bodeen in the Counseling Center for more information and an application.

Kaleidoscript is accepting artistic submissions for its 46th edition throughout the month of February! Check out our info on the flat screens around school! Stop and chat with us during lunch this week on Tuesday and Thursday–just look for the lollipops!

 

Key Club will meet in the cafeteria today after school. Any Key Club member who signed up to read to elementary students on Wednesday MUST be at the meeting on Tuesday.

COUNSELING OFFICE

Attention National Honor Society Applicants:  This is a reminder that your applications are due in the Counseling Center to Mrs. Ryser by Thursday, 2/14/13 at 3:15 p.m.  If you did not go to the application meeting and plan on applying, see Mrs. Ryser today.

Students interested in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences or the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois:  There is a bus trip sponsored by the University of Illinois extension on Sat., March 9th to visit the University of Illinois and take a tour with a parent or guardian.  Please see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center for more details.

Sadies dance tickets are on sale at the book store. You and your date’s IDs are both required to buy tickets. If your date does not attend Moline High School, you will need to get a permission slip filled out. Permission slips are available at the bookstore and on the high school website.

 

Say happy Valentine’s Day, ask a date to Sadies, or just help the Domestic Violence Shelter by buying a rose. You may purchase them outside the cafeteria today through Wednesday.

 

There is a free School Safety Seminar for parents and students this Wednesday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Christian Church on Avenue of the Cities. If you’d like more information, please stop by the main office and pick up a flyer.

On Wednesday night at the Scholastic Bowl seeding meeting, Moline was selected as the number 4 seed in the 32-team sectional.  This means that the Maroons will host an IHSA regional here on the Monday evening of March 4.  Senior Anthony Krone and junior Pranav Puri were named to the All-Sectional team by a panel of coaches.  This is the second consecutive top-four seed for the team and a repeat all-sectional selection for Anthony.

Permission slips are available for the Feb. 28th field trip to the Circa 21 Theatre Workshop Day. Stop by room B214 to pick up your permission slip. The cost to go is $40.00. There are only 30 spots available, so don’t get left behind!

Authentic Voices members are reminded that there is a meeting at this time (P3) in the dance room next to the west gym. Also to officers; there will be an officer meeting tomorrow at 7:30 in the counseling center to plan for the rose sale.

The Paul Petersen Scholarship is now available to graduating seniors who intend on pursuing a degree in computer science.  Applications are due by March 20, 2013 and be downloaded off of the counseling website.

 

The Tyler Ledezma Scholarship is now available exclusively to all senior students graduating from Moline High School.  Applicants must complete an essay and sign a seatbelt pledge.  Download information off of the Counseling Website.  This scholarship has a due date of March 28, 2013 and completed applications must be turned into Mr. Bodeen in the Counseling Center.

 

The Tyler Ledezma Scholarship is now available exclusively to all senior students graduating from Moline High School.  Applicants must complete an essay and sign a seatbelt pledge.  Download information off of the Counseling Website.  This scholarship has a due date of March 28, 2013 and completed applications must be turned into Mr. Bodeen in the Counseling Center.
