CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS 

Rehearsals for the Improv Room for Share Joys begin today right after school in the Auditorium Lobby. We’ll meet daily from 3-4:00. You really should join in all the fun and silliness, because only people who have attended the majority of rehearsals will be scheduled to work the Improv Room. Don’t be left out! See you Monday right after school in the Aud Lobby.

Attention M Staff:  Only the junior section is meeting this week. You will be completing the junior section of the yearbook on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please come to the publication’s office immediately after school all three days.

 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Greenhouse Scholarship is now available to current senior students.  Applicants must be a resident of Illinois and have a 3.5 GPA.  Scholarship is worth up to $5000 per year, with a due date of January 21, 2013.  Download the application from the Counseling Website.

 

MISC

Chamber Choir will rehearse today from 3:15 until 4:30. This rehearsal is mandatory. Please be prompt and bring your music!

 

Senior t-shirts will be distributed in the cafeteria today during lunch.

 

The schedule for Intramural Basketball is posted outside J212. Please check for your team’s game time.

There is an informational meeting for a dodge ball tournament tomorrow in the cafeteria from 3:15 – 3:45. The tournament will take place during school on the 6th.

NHS members–There will be an elf meeting on Monday 11/19 at 3:00 in room B131.  Remember your raffle prizes.

Western Illinois Quad Cities is having an Open House on Wednesday, Nov. 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Donut Eating Teams have one week from Monday to raise pledges.  Pledge sheets are due on Monday, November 26th to Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center.  Work hard this weekend!

 

The deadline for Intramural Basketball sign-ups is today. Turn all required info in at the book store as soon as possible today.

Right after school today there will be a brief kick-off meeting for a new club at Moline, Health Occupations students of America. The meeting will be held in Mr. Mahieu’s room, J138.

 

MISC

Any student who is interested in video or film-making should stop by J138 for a great chance to win a video contest with great prizes. If you have any questions, see Mr. Mahieu.

 

If you are planning to paint a window in the library for Share Joys, come by Thursday to show us your sketch and choose which window you will paint.  

 

Chamber Choir will rehearse Tomorrow (Thursday) from 3:15 until 4:30 p.m. in the choir room.  The remaining rehearsals are MANDATORY in order to be prepared for the holiday performances.  Please be prompt as well. 

 

Way to go MHS students!  We now have 26 Donut Eating Contest Teams.  Since we need 30 teams to raise as much as we possibly can for Share Joys, we still need four more teams.  If you have been thinking about stepping up to help out, please see Mrs. Dexter or Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center today!  You still have two weeks to raise money before the contest.

 

The deadline for intramural basketball league sign-ups has been extended to Friday, November 16th. All money and rosters are due in the bookstore or your team will not be included in the season schedule.

Encore! is meeting after school today in room B208. See Mr. Thomas if you have a conflict and are unable to attend.

 

Science Club will meet in E301 today right after school.

 

Art Club will be meeting at 3:15 in room E114. You will be having some quick drawing competitions. Don’t miss out.

 

If you are interested in purchasing a shirt for Authentic Voices you may preview the design in the Counseling Office. They are $15 and the money is due tomorrow at 3:30. Only students who pay in advance will get shirts, no extras will be ordered, so get your money in today!

 

COUNSELING CENTER

Black Hawk College is having the first annual Parent Night from 6-8 p.m. tonight in the Sustainable Technologies Building at the Quad Cities Campus.  Parents can register by contacting Karen Dahlstrom at 309 796-5341.  Parents and students may attend to get information on the steps to enrollment, financial aid, and the transition between high school and college.

 

A reminder to students planning to go on the Blackhawk College visit November 21st: turn in your permission slips to Mrs. Dexter in the Counseling Office by the end of the day today.  

 

MISC

The Call Back list for The Yellow Boat is now posted on the Drama Board outside of Room B214. Please check the list TODAY to see if you need to come for Call Backs. Call Backs will be held right after school in the Auditorium.  The final Cast List will be posted on Friday morning.

Any junior or senior Natural Helpers who would like to be a TL, please stop by J138 sometime today if you haven’t already gotten your application.  Applications are due this Friday.

 

There will be a Kaleidoscript  meeting in B215 at 3:15 today. Please bring all lollipop money! We will be discussing the Whitewater conference, the blog, and upcoming fundraisers, so please attend.

 

There will be no Drama Club meeting today due to Yellow Boat auditions.

 

Encore! is canceled for today; however, we will have an Encore! meeting on Thursday after school in B208.  Please see Mr. Thomas if you have a conflict and cannot attend. 

 

Science Club will meet in E301 Thursday right after school.

 

Sign Language Club will not be meeting for the remainder in this semester. Please listen for later announcements regarding it resuming next semester.

National Honor Society members have a mandatory Share Joys kick off meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Aud. Lobby. 

COUNSELING CENTER

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council is now offering scholarships that range between $1000- $3000.  Applicants must be majoring in a field of science, technology, engineering or math.  Applications may be downloaded from the counseling website and are due by January 18, 2013.

 

The Illinois Dream Fund Scholarship is also available to graduating seniors.  Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA.  Applications may be downloaded from the Counseling Website.  The deadline for this scholarship is February 1, 2013.

 

MISC

A reminder to everyone who has an audition appointment for The Yellow Boat: be sure to be a little early for your audition. We’ll be in room B 214. 

 

Share Joys is a Moline High School effort to clothe 250 students in the Moline/Coal Valley School District.  We need your help!  The Donut Eating Contest raises almost half of the money each year to help students in need.  We need 26 more teams to raise this money.  Please see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center today, if you can step up and help with this worthwhile project.

 

For any students and staff members who still wish to help Moline High School in the Student Hunger Drive Challenge, you can still bring in canned food and help us out! Food can go into the large bins near the front doors or in front of the Main Office. Thanks for all you have done already!

Your library is hosting a Paint-the-window friendly competition to raise money for Share Joys.  If you are interested in decorating a window with the chance to win ice cream, movie tickets or art supplies WHILE helping to make the holiday season brighter for others, see the staff in the library for an information sheet right away.  Painting will begin next week!

Congratulations to the Moline Chess team for their first place finish in the Sterling Invitational this weekend.  Michael Dombrach won a gold medal on board 8.  Silver medalists were:  Ben Wolf-board 1, Darsh Kurani-board 4, Aditya Jain-board 5, Bill Johnson-board 6, and Pranov Puri-board 7.  Jerry Chen won the open division and Eric Sheidler finished 3rd.  Other team members were James Wilson, Steffen Timmer, Jon McGehee, Reece Oldenburg, and Josh Gunaselan. 

 

There will NOT be a Student Congress meeting tonight.

COUNSELING CENTER

The Consumer Credit Scholarship is now available to graduating seniors.  Two, $250 scholarships will be awarded.  Criteria and application can be downloaded from the Counseling website.  Applications are due January 15, 2013.

SPORTS

Boys’ basketball try-outs will be held today. Freshmen – 3:30 @ Coolidge, Sophomores – 3:30 in the West gym, and Varsity 4:00 at Wharton. Any boy interested in trying out for basketball must have a physical and permission slip on file in the Athletic Office.

 

MISC

Audition appointments are now available for the winter play “The Yellow Boat.” This is a larger cast production, so we’re looking for a wide variety of talented actors and actresses. We are especially looking for a youthful-looking male to play the lead, and graceful females and males to be a part of the movement ensemble.  If you are interested, please come by Room B214, right across from the library, and sign up for your audition appointment. The best spots go quickly, so don’t delay!

The fun begins at 6:30 at Browning Field and only costs $3 to get in the doors. If you don’t have $3, bring in 6 cans of food to help support the Student Hunger Drive. Don’t miss your chance to see which class has more football skills. Cheer on your fellow classmates and find out which group of girls will hold this years’ Powder Puff Title!
