Congratulations to this year’s German Club officers:  President, James Wilson; Vice-president – Linnea Carr, Treasurer -Tyler Reagan; and Secretary- Jamie Ramsey.  Please meet with Mr. Pitz briefly after school today.  

 

COUNSELING

SPORTS

Any boys’ interested in tennis this spring who are not in a fall sport, need to stop by and check in with Coach Jones in room J208A this week.

 

MISC

Class rings will be distributed during lunch on Wednesday, September 5th in the auditorium lobby.

 

Students who do not have parking tags displayed will be issued parking tickets beginning Tuesday, September 4th. Parking tags can be purchased at the book store for $20. Parking ticket fines are $25!

Students who have pre-paid for their parking tags must pick them up a.s.a.p. with parent permission form and driver’s license.

 

Tardy/Sweep detentions are to be served every day in the cafeteria at 3:05. Failure to serve will result in Wednesday detention. Sweeps will continue through Friday!

 

Starting Tuesday, September 4th, 34th Street from 12th Ave. to Ave of the Cities will be closed for a construction project. The marked detour will be 27th Street. This street closure is scheduled to last approximately four weeks, so plan a new route to school if this affects your morning commute.

SPORTS

Any girl who isn’t currently in a fall sport, who is interested in playing basketball, should attend a meeting in B152 on Thursday at 3:15 to discuss open gym schedules and workouts.

There is a 10 week sign language class being offered to students and their families. Classes begin September 11th at Roosevelt elementary from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, $25 per family, or $15 for District personnel. You can sign up at Roosevelt the evening of the classes on Sept. 11th.

Drama Club meets today after school in E204. Join the fun!

 

Latinos Unidos will meet after school today from 3:10-3:30 in room J322.

 

Any girl who wants to participate in Authentic Voices should attend the first meeting of the year. The meeting will take place tomorrow at 9:40 a.m. in the cafeteria.

 

COUNSELING

NHS members:  Plan to attend the organizational meeting to elect officers tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. This is one of only 3 full NHS meetings this year. 

Students who are interested in law and the legal field should get information from Mrs. Ryser about a great opportunity to do career exploration with the Deere and Company Law Department.

The St. Ambrose University Physical Therapy Department is hosting an open house for students interested in Physical Therapy on Saturday, September 15th.  For more information, please see Mrs. Ryser in the Counseling Center.

Dan Gable, one of the world’s greatest coaches and motivators will be speaking at Riverdale High School on September 1st at 10:30 a.m. The tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis for $5 at the door about one hour prior to the start. If you would like a flyer on the event, see Mr. Thompson in D-wing.

Auditions for the fall play, Noises Off, are today and Tuesday after school. If you haven’t signed up for an audition time, please do so in B208.

Crime Stoppers are selling lanyards for your student I.D.’s  this week in the cafeteria. The cost is only $1. Stop by and get one TODAY! There are limited supplies.

 

If you are interested in becoming a member of Moline High School’s yearbook staff, please pick up an application in B206 or in the publication’s office.  The deadline is Friday, so make sure you pick up your application as soon as possible.  Thank you, The “M” Staff.

 

The Kaleidoscript, MHS’ creative arts magazine, will hold its first meeting tomorrow in Room B215 at 3:15! Any student interested in writing, visual arts, and musical composition is invited to attend. We also invite those interested in the layout, design, and publishing side of the magazine to join us. The Kaleidoscript will have weekly meetings as well as year-long activities! Please ask Mrs. MacLennan or Mrs. Hays for more information on the club and publication.

 

The Debate Team will hold an informational meeting this Friday after school in J220. Please see Miss Guerdet if unable to attend.

 

National Honor Society Members: Pick up a ballot to run for officer or committee chair in the Counseling Center this week from Mrs. Ryser. Ballots are due on Friday before 3:15 p.m.  You will vote for officers at our mandatory meeting next Tuesday, August 28th in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.

Attn all varsity wrestlers: there is a mandatory meeting on Thursday at 3:10 in the wrestling room.

Attn freshmen: Your Link Leaders invite you to a football tailgate on Friday at 6:00 pm at Browning Field. We’ll have pizza, music and lawn games. Hope to see you there!

 

Any students needing to catch Metro Link buses after school need to be on time. The buses have been arriving on schedule around 3:10 and again at 3:15. Students going west will be picked up at the tennis courts. Students going east will be picked up on the Avenue.

 

Auditions for the Fall Play, the hilarious comedy Noises Off, are next Monday and Tuesday after school.  If you’d like to sign up for a time to audition, please attend an informational meeting this Thursday after school in E204 from 3:15-4:15.  You’ll leave knowing what to expect in the audition process and how to speak with a British Accent for this funny comedy. If you have questions, see Mr. Thomas in B208.
